Classification by the activation method

Gas activation method  The gas activation reaction occurs by various oxidative gases  (water vapor, carbon dioxide, air and so on) at a high temperature of 800 ℃ ~ 1000 ℃. And the adsorption efficiency is determined by the chemical nature and concentration of the  oxidative gas, reaction temperature, and activation time, and the amount and types of compounds  inside raw materials, which are produced by using a rotary kiln and a multiple hearth furnace.

Drug activation method It is the chemical treatment-activation method using salts and calcium chloride that have  dewatering properties, magnesium chloride, zinc chloride, and acids such as phosphoric acid  and sulfuric acid. The water vapour-activation method has been widely used as one of the gas  activation method. because the drug activation method can induce complexity of the manufacturing  process, corrosion of the equipment, secondary contamination and economic issues.

Classification by the pore size of activated carbon

macro pore : more than 500Å in diameter: Effect on the diffusion rate into the medium and micro pores

meso pore : 20~500Å in diameter: Substances with large molecular weight such as detergent and coloring agents

micro pore : less than 20Å in diameter: Adsorption of fine contaminants like  as taste and order components

Characteristics by the type of activated carbon

Granular activated carbon
Basically, activated carbon is a non-graphite form of carbon which could be produced from any carbonaceous material such as coal, lignite, wood, paddy husk, coir pith, coconut shell, etc.
Activated carbon manufactured from coconut shell is mainly considered superior to those obtained from other sources because of very small macro pore structure which renders it more effective for the adsorption of gas and vapour and for the removal of colour and odour of compounds. And the produced activated charcoal shall be crushed and sorted into suitable sizes such as 4x8 mesh and 8x30 mesh according to customer requirements.
The quality of activated carbon is determined by the type and condition of raw materials as well as production process and technology. It’s normally used for liquid purification or gas adsorption.

Powder activated carbon
Powder Activated Carbon is fine powder of the activated carbon produced from carbonaceous materials. Powder activated carbon is usually used for purification of liquid or exhaust gas in an Incinerator. Once the impurities are adsorbed, they are discarded from the solvents through sedimentation and
filtration processes.
